A brief history of babylon leaf…
Babylon Leaf were formed in 2001 by three lads from Buckley who knew they were on to something after singing a few tunes together with just one acoustic guitar at local pubs and talent competitions. The voices was the one thing that stood out: the three of them singing together just sounded right. Soon after Neil and Hanny met up with Dave and Paul who came from other local bands Sappy/Pud (now Kosha) and BWs. After one bizarre night of “decks, drums n rock n roll” it was time to up the tempo…
Next came Tom. He began as ‘table-tapper’ when we were all jamming up at the old house in Buckley, and it soon came clear that this guy had wicked rhythm. Six smashed tambourines, one bloodied hand and some dosh to invest in some bongos and congas later, we were there.
Last but not least is Rich: bass-meister extraordinairre. Having joined the guys at the end of 2002, Rich has completed the line-up, making Babylon Leaf into a fully kitted-out six-piece.
…the official version
Having been together for five years years in various guises, Babylon Leaf have put a slow year behind them, gained some straying members back from Europe and Tenerife and are hard at work on new original material. They have gigged in pubs and clubs around North Wales and North West England and have gained a decent-sized following. At the end of 2003 they played further afield in cities such as Liverpool and Nottingham.
Babylon Leaf have also recorded and produced their first demo EP in 2003 entitled ‘Slow Down’ - all completely self-financed.
Whilst we’re in a strange kind of limbo, and perhaps sans drummer, we’re still playing together and showing our faces at the odd plug n’ play around North Wales.
